God, tell me a story about…You

Provides

Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?

Matthew 6:26

Today we looked at a story about the Israelites. We remembered that at one time, the Israelites (God’s people) were slaves in Egypt, until God, through Moses, set them free. But this meant leaving their homes in Egypt and going into the desert.

Read Exodus 16:2 – 35

1 – Were the Israelites happy in the desert? How do you know this?

2 – Have you ever been to a desert? What kind of food can you find in a desert?

3 – When God heard his people complaining what did He do?

4 – Do you think God would have sent the Israelites food even if they had never complained? Why?

5 – For how many years did God send food to the Israelites in the desert? (verse 35)

6- What are things that you need? Has God always provided you with those things? Do you believe that God will provide you with the things that you need in the future? Why or why not?

Read Matthew 6:25 – 33

7 – God created you. He knows what you need. He loves you and cares for you. He will provide for you. So, what does God ask from you in return?

This week’s challenge

There are many examples in the Bible, where God provides. I’ve listed some here. Refine your Bible searching skills and locate them, and of course read them. Or, try to find your own example.

Psalm 104:10-18

Exodus 17:3-6

1 Kings 17:2-6

John 6:5-13

Daniel 3:16-29

Now, don’t forget to take some time to pray together as a family, thanking God for his provisions.

God, tell me a story about…You

Mankind

So God created mankind in His own image, in the image of God He created them; male and female He created them.

Genesis 1:27

Read Genesis 1:26 – 2:25
Questions

1 – What does it mean to be created in the “image of God”?

2 – Why did God make us different from the other things He created? (verse 1:26 and 2:15)

3 – What are the some of the things you can do that a horse cannot do?

4 – When God looked back at every thing He had created, what did He say? (verse 31) Did God think He had made a mistake? What do you think God said after He created you?

5 – Are blue-eyed people better than brown-eyed people? Are tall people better than short people? Why not? (read verse Gen 1:27 and 1Sam 16:7 for help) We must remember that no matter what we look like, we are all of equal value.

This week’s challenge

God created us special. Discuss as a family, is there anything else you could be doing to take better care of God’s other creations? Now, pick something on that list and do it.

Here’s a fun song to help kids remember to whom they belong.

God, tell me a story about…You

Creation

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

John 1:1

Read Genesis 1:1-27
Questions

1 – Where in the Bible is the book of Genesis?

2 – What is the first verse of the Bible?

3 – What did God create? When God looked at all that He had created, what did He say?

4 – Have you ever created anything? What did you need to create something new?

5 – What is different about the way God creates and the way you create? (check verses 3, 6, 9, 11, 14 if you need help)

6- Wow! God is powerful! Try to imagine how God felt when He was creating.

This week’s challenge

Family research project. God created so many different things and He created each of them special, for their own purpose. Your challenge this week is to look something up together as a family and learn more about it, see all of the details that went into its creation. You can choose to learn more about stars, clouds, the Goliath Bird Eater Spider, the Aye-aye or any other creation; it’s up to you.

Have fun! And, don’t forget to share the amazing facts you learn with your friends (and me).

Once, all your work is done, check out this fun video about creation.

Followers: Liz

You are the children that God dearly loves. So follow His example. Lead a life of love, just as Christ did.” Ephesians 5:1-2a

This Sunday we heard from Liz. We heard about her family and her work. She told us that because God first loved her, she can love her kids, her clients and her students.

“We love because He first loved us”. 1 John 4:19

Questions

1 – Do you know that God loves you?

Read 1 John 4:7-21

God’s love for us is what comes first. Before we were even born, God loved us and sent His son to die on a cross for us. Once we know this, once we believe this, God lives in us. And, we can take God’s love and share it with others. (verse 10-12)

2 – What can you do to share God’s love?

3 – Who should you love? Read Mark 12: 30-31, Matthew 5:44, John 13:34

4 – So, as we end our series, can you answer the question? What does a follower of Jesus look like? And now, are you ready to be a follower of Jesus? What will you do to imitate Jesus?

Activity

The snow is gone. Let’s go outside. Gather your family and head outside for a game of Follow the Leader. Afterwards, pray together. Thank God for His love and ask Him to help you love others.

Followers: Chief Clunis

serve one another humbly in love. For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command:’Love your neighbour as yourself’.” Galatians 5:13b-14

This Sunday we talked about Chief Clunis. Chief Clunis leads over 2,000 police officers, it is his responsibility to keep all of us safe. We looked at two things the Chief has been heard to say regarding his work.

“I’m here to serve the community, what do you need?”

“We’re trying to build a strong sense of community within the entire city, with people recognizing that we all need to care about each other. If we’re going to change what we see in our city, it’s going to take a concerted effort from everyone.”

Questions

1 – Chief Clunis is a leader, but he tells us that he is here to serve us. Do you know anyone else who was both leader and servant?

Read John 13:12-17

2 – Do you need anything? Does someone serve you? Who?

3 – Are there people in our city who have needs, but no one caring for them?

Read John 13:34-35

4 – One person cannot care for everyone. But, we can all help someone. How can you serve? At home? At school? At church? In your community?

Activity

Take some time this week to think of a way you and your family can serve a neighbour. Remember, just like Chief Clunis, we are to follow Jesus’ example.

Don’t forget to practice your memory verse

“You are the children that God dearly loves. So follow His example. Lead a life of love, just as Christ did.” Ephesians 5:1-2a

Followers: C.S. Lewis

Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” 1 Peter 4:10

This Sunday we talked about gifts (or talents). We saw that God gives each of us different gifts. And, it does not matter which gift we have been given because all gifts are important, all gifts meet a need and all gifts are from God. Rather, what’s important is that we share that gift with others. Just as C.S. Lewis did. C.S. Lewis was creative. He had a way with words. He was able to reach many people with his writings.

Her are some C.S. Lewis quotes to get you thinking.

  • “I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen:not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.”
  • “To be a Christian means to forgive the inexcusable because God has forgiven the inexcusable in you.”
  •  “Integrity is doing the right thing, even when no one is watching”
  • “True humility is not thinking less of yourself; it is thinking of yourself less”
  • “I never exactly made a book. It’s rather like taking a dictation. I was given things to say”

Questions

1 – Which is your favourite quote from those given above? Why?

Read 1 Corinthians 12:4-11

2 – Who gives us gifts?

3 – What gift do you think God’s given you?

4 – Which is the most important gift?

Read 1 Peter 4:10

5 – Are you sharing your gift with others, just as C.S. Lewis did? What are you doing?

Pray together, thanking God for the gifts He’s given you and pray that He will show you how to use your gift to serve others.

Don’t forget to check out the videos from last week if you haven’t already done so.
