PSALM 63

Many times we hear people ask, “where was God when….?” That happened after 9-11, after hurricanes Katrina and Sandy (to name just a few), after the Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami that came on Christmas day in 2004, and during the Ebola outbreak of 2014 in West Africa. It is a normal question that we ask when we are in pain or in serious trouble. We could give a rational, theologically sound answer but someone in the throes of a painful situation does not need a rational response. What they need is help and care and love. The poet who wrote Psalm 63 probably wrote this poem during a painful situation but what is amazing about the poem is that he says he will decide to respond from the experience of being loved and cared for. He is saying that evil will not gain the upper hand. Sound familiar? No? Stay tuned.
