PSALM 139

There are certain types of dreams whose themes are so common they are shared by people of all colours, cultures, religions, and socioeconomic status. Similar dreams and worries visit male and female alike. Some of the most common of the scary themes are falling, being chased, being caught inappropriately dressed or naked, failing or arriving late and being completely helpless. Psalm 139 explores some of these common themes as they relate to our connection with God. The sudden change in tempo from verse 19 to the end is akin to waking up after the dream. The beauty of this poem is that it is not so much we who are exposed as it is God.
