The Sacred Way: The Jesus Prayer

The Sacred Way: The Jesus Prayer

by Kasey Vander Veen

Today is the first Sunday of Lent. This Lenten season we will follow the journey of Jesus Christ towards that fateful day on the cross. We will look at stories that highlight what many call THE SACRED WAY, which is the way of life John the Baptist meant when he said of Jesus, “I must decrease and he must increase”. The sacred way is about sanctification or, the death of ‘SELF’, what the Bible calls ‘our old nature’. There are many spiritual practices that help us focus on Jesus as the Christ and Lord of our lives. Today we begin to follow Christ’s journey with the story of The Garden of Gethsemane. The simple sacred practice we would like to include is THE JESUS PRAYER, ‘Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’
